ABSTRACT |
Background and Purpose : In Oriental Medicine, the fact that blood stasis syndrome reduces blood circulation, so adults having both atherosclerotic disease of the craniocervical arteries and blood stasis syndrome are more exposed to ischemic stroke, was demonstrated in several studies. But there is no thesis for comparison between acute cerebral ischemic patients and normal persons as a risk factor for stroke. We investigated the differences(including blood-static pattern and symptoms) between acute cerebral ischemic patients and normal persons, according to The Diagnostic Criteria for Blood Stasis Syndrome.
Methods : We compared three stroke patients to normal patient groups. The blood static pattern and symptoms according to The Diagnostic Criteria for Blood stasis Syndrome between the patient group, 38 patients(male 18, female 20) admitted due to acute cerebral infarction 7days after stroke attack in Dept. of Internal Medicine, Dongguk Gyeong-Ju Oriental Medicine Hospital from August 2001 to June 2002. The control group, 36 patients(male 17, female 19) that had described normal state without a history of stroke (including Transient Ischemic Stroke) through the health examination from April 2002 to June 2002.
Results and Conclusions : In the blood static pattern, the patient group was more severe than the control group. We could find significant difference in four blood stasis symptoms(rough skin, livid lips, telangiectasis or vascular spider and resistance or tenderness on pressure of the caecal region) in the patients group compared to these 4 symptoms. Especially, telangiectasis or vascular spider was prominent symptom among the four blood stasis symptoms. In conclusion, the most significant symptom of acute cerebral ischemic patients was telangiectasis vascular spider so we may use the symptom of telangiectasis vascular spider as a diagnostic tool to detect ischemic stroke such as silent infarcts. |
