ABSTRACT |
Olivopontocerebellar atrophy(OPCA) is a group of diseases characterized by the loss of neurons in the cerebellar cortex, basis pons and inferior olivary nuclei. OPCA is one part of multiple system atrophy(MSA). OPCA is divided into a hereditary type and a sporadity type. OPCA is diagnosed according to Brain-MRI or CT scan. The sign is the atrophy of the cerebellum, olivo, and pons. Clinically we diagnose OPCA by the following symptoms; gait disorder, cerebellar ataxia, dizziness, dysarthria. A 46-year-old woman was admitted with gait disorder, cerebellar ataxia, dysarthria, dizziness, nausea, general weakness. We diagnosed the patient as OPCA according to Brain MRI Scan. We treated with herbal medicine(Gagamshamgi-um) and acupunture therapy(BiJeongKyuck, FeiShengKyuck, the method of 8 constitution therapy;Cholecystotonia). Symptoms of gait disorder, cerebellar ataxia, nausea, dizziness were improved. We suggest oriental medical therapy is significantly effective on the treatment of OPCA. |
