ABSTRACT |
Background and Objectuve : The aim of this experimental study was to investigate the effects of Artemisia asiatica Nakai in the movement of irritable gastrointestinal smooth muscles, anticatharsis, transport ability of intestine, and central nervous system by using rats or mice or Guinea pig.
Method and Material : Execpt for study of this the movement of irritable gastrointestinal smooth muscles, all the animals were divided into two groups; one is a group received 100mg/kg of Artemisia asiatica Nakai extract(sample A), the other is a group received 500mg/kg(sample B).
Result: The result were as follows; 1. Artemisia asiatica Nakai showed inhibitory effect on the motility of the isolated ileum and relaxant effect on the contracted ileum induced by pretreatment of acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. Theses effects were dependent on their concentration. 2. Artemisia asiatica Nakai showed inhibitory effect on the motility of the isolated ileum and relaxant effect on the contracted ileum of Guinea pig induced by pretreatment of histamine. Theses effects were dependant on their quantity. 3. Significant supression of transport ability was recognized in sample B group(P 0.01). And large intestine was supressed significantly in both sample A and sample B group(P 0.001). 4. Significant supression of trnasport ability of small intestine was recognized in neostigmine subcutaneous injection group(P 0.01). 5. Anticathartic effect of Artemisia asiatica Nakai was appeared in sample A(P 0.01) and B group(P 0.001) after drug medication in caster oil induced diarrhea. 6. Anticathartic effect of Artemisia asiatica Nakai was appeared in sample B group(P 0.05) after drug medication in Pinocarpine induced diarrhea, and supression effect was recognized in sample A group. 7. Anticathartic effect of Artemisia asiatica Nakai was appeared in sample B group(P 0.05) after drug medication in Barium chloride induced diarrhea. 8. Analgesic effect of Artemisia asiatica Nakai through inhibition if writhing syndrome by acetic acid was not recognized significantly. 9. Effect of Artemisia asiatica Nakai prolonging the hypnotic duration by pentobarbital-Na wax shown in only group B(P 0.05).
Conclusion: Therefore it is suggested that results obtained from this study is well consistant with clinical efficacy of Artemisia asiatica Nakai written in oriental medicine books. |
