ABSTRACT |
Objectives: Hyperlipidemia is one of the major factors causing the atherosclerosis of coronary arteries and the welldocumented modifiable risk factors of stroke, especially in ischemic type. It has been reported that Daewhangwhangryunhaedok-tang (Chunghyul-dan; HH333) significantly inhibited the increase of serum lipids in hyperlipidemic rats and mice induced by corn oil and high cholesterol-diet. So we intended to observe effects of Chunghyul-dan(HH333) on serum lipids in patients with hyperlipidemia.
Methods : The study was comprised of 34 patients(10 male, 24 female) visited in Kyung-Hee Oriental Medical Center. The patients serum levels of total cholesterol were higher than 200mg/dL, LDL-cholesterol 130mg/dL(over borderline-high of National Cholesterol Education Program- Adult Treatment Panel III, NCEP-ATPIII ), or Triglyceride 200mg/dL(over high of NCEP-ATP III ). The patients were administered Chunghyul-dan(HH333) 600mg(2 capsule) three times a day for 8 weeks. Lipid profile was followed up after 4 weeks(34 patients) and 8 weeks(15 patients).
Results: At 4 weeks, the reduction by mean percent change from baseline in serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, total lipid, phospholipid, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were -8.3%(P<0.05), -10.1%, -8.6%(P<0.05), -8.3%(P<0.05), - 9.7%(P<0.05), -7.4%(P<0.05). At 8 weeks, the reduction by mean percent change from baseline in serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, total lipid, phospholipid, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were -7.7%(P<0.05), -21.1%(P<0.05), -9.6%(P<0.05), -6.6%(P<0.05), - 5.5%, -5.1%. No serious adverse effects were observed during the whole period.
Conclusions: This study suggests that Chunghyul-dan(HH333) could provide effective treatment for the patients with Hyperlipidemia. |
